How do you get started??
First of all, gather all the information you can on here, then contact any of the members of the board to get you pointed in the right direction. The car clinic is a great start as we have all the materials necessary to build a soapbox car and we are there to help you build it. You just have to take it home and paint it.
Does it cost alot of money?
For $190 you can build the car at the car clinic. If this is something that is beyond your reach the Optimist club donates three cars every year you just need to let them know you are interested. Also there are always people donated cars that their children have outgrown.
I forgot to register by June 1st, is it too late now?
No, its not too late. This is for the kids and we would never turn anyone away. We try to discourage late registration due to making up of the races. Anyone who are in any other sports can appreciate that it takes time to make up a racing schedule. Please be considerate and have your entry in ASAP.
I want to register, but if i mail it will it get there in time? Can I pay that day providing I have registered before hand?
Absolutely, just fill out the online registration form or fax the form to Keltie @ 346-9897.
How long does the races run for?
We usually try and let the kids have at least 4 races, providing what we have for numbers. The registration and inspections are from 8am to 10am. With the race starting around 11am. If everyone is ready we will start earlier. The racing usually goes until around 4:30pm to 5pm then we hand out trophies & prices. No one goes home empty handed. Not to mention enjoying a delicious piece of "Soapbox" cake.
Is there anything I can do to help out?
Sure, we always need help. If it is in the morning we need help placing bales, placing signs in the bales, setting up the ramps, setting up the concession, hanging banners. After the racing is done we will need help taking everything down again.
Can anyone be a member of the Soapbox committee?
You bet, we are always looking for more members. Just contact any of the current members and let us know that you want to help out. The more help the better.
