Race Day Details

  1. Time: The SoapBox Derby races will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm.  Awards will be presented at the end of the runs.

  2. Safety Inspection: Each car must be presented to the Safety Committee between the hours of 8:00 am. to 10:00 am. for the compulsory inspection and registration with the starter. Do Not Wait Until The Last Moment To Get Your Car Inspected!!

  3. Trial Runs: Trial Runs can be taken from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, but only after your car has passed it’s safety inspection and has been registered with the starter.

  4. Cars Ready: All cars must report to the staging area by the starting ramps, fully inspected and registered with the Starter no later than 10:30 am.

  5. The Heats: Each car will run heats in each of three lanes.  Entrants will race against different competitors in each heat.  This reduces the chance of a fast car being eliminated from the finals because it had to race all three heats against another fast car.  Racers must remain in their vehicles at all times will at the bottom of the hill.

  6. Race Scoring: Each racer will receive points for a first, second or third place finish in each heat.  The places will be determined by the order of crossing the finish line.  No one is allowed to push his or her car in any manner.  Points will be awarded as follows:

First Place:5 points
Second Place:3 points
Third Place:2 points

Upon completion of the heats, the final scores will be calculated by totaling the racer’s points from each heat to determine 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Ties for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd will result in one race to break the tie.

  1. King of The Hill: The first place finishers from each of the three categories will choose 4 tires from the draw box supplied by the association. (Standard 8” wagon wheels, ½” Diameter axles)  These tires are to be used for the king of the hill race.  No modifications, cleaning or lubricating of these wheels will be allowed.  A draw will be made for lane selection.  The winner of this race will be King of the Hill

  2. Missing A Heat: If your car breaks down, you should advise the Starter that you might be out of your heat.  You may make repairs in the pit area and report back to the Starter.  If you miss your heat you may be assigned third place for that heat at the Starter’s discretion.

  3. Help Available: If you have any questions or concerns, the Derby Officials are available to answer your questions.

  4. Listen To The Announcements: Be ready for your heat.  Cars that are to race next are announced before each heat.  If you are not in place when the Starters are ready, you will miss your heat.

Good Luck, Have fun and RACE SAFE.  Stay in your designated lanes.
